Interview with Author Michelle Alstead

Tell us about your new release?

This book was inspired by my experiences as a single mother of a son with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The reality of my experience was too difficult to write realistically so I threw in some romance to make the story more intriguing.

State a random fact about yourself that would surprise your readers.

I’m colorblind which is extremely rare for a female.

When did you decide to become a writer?

After reading my very first book, I knew my destiny was to be a writer. I’ve been telling stories my whole life.

What are your guilty pleasures?

I’m a true crime junkie.

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?

Emma’s experiences with her son are based on my experiences with my son. Her desire to be successful as a writer is also based on my own struggles.

What were the challenges in bringing this book to life?

Writing about what I’ve gone through with getting my son treated for autism was the hardest part. I did not want to relive the worst of it.

Your favorite books and author?

Steinbeck is my very favorite author. He’s by far one of the greatest writers of all time.

Do you have an all time favorite book?

Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I have a copy autographed by the author.

How can readers stay in touch?

They can email me at

If I give you a time machine, what time period and in what place would you travel to?

I would go back to the 90’s. In retrospect, I really wish I had appreciated how fun life was back then.

Are you working on any other projects except writing, right now?

I’m currently finishing Dance Me Home which centers around Drew Mendoza finally finding love. For anyone who has read my other adult novels, they’ll recognize Drew who is prominently featured in three other novels.
